To Somalia, with Love

With another failed rainy season, Somalia faces a historic drought and looming famine. But livestock and agriculture offer a critical path to meeting nutritional needs and generating income. What if we could increase access to opportunities in these sectors?

A Resilient Somalia

Somalia is a country rich in natural beauty and home to generations of hard workers and dreamers seeking the same security and opportunity that every family deserves. Unfortunately, it is also a country shaken by climate extremes: devastating drought, erratic rainfall, and flash flooding.

With another failed rainy season, our local partners on the ground have told us the need is great. We’re doing our part to widen access to safe water and climate resiliency by continuing our long-term support of farmers and women-led households.

Celebrate and contribute to Somalia’s growth today by donating today!

OUR WORK IN SOMALIA

Penny Appeal USA has been on the ground in Somalia since 2016, focusing on Somalia’s strengths in farming and livestock while responding to the devastating famine that has forced more than 800,000 people to flee their homes. Together, we have distributed Covid-19 relief, Qurbani, and culturally-sensative food packs. Additionally, over 64,000 individuals are benefiting from our Thirst Relief projects, and hudrends more have joined the livestock and agriculture business as a result of our Income Generating initiatives!

FROM SOMALIA, WITH LOVE

Macdan is a widowed Somali mother who struggled to send her three children to school due to the country’s droughts. But even when rivers dry up, your support overflows!

Through our Income Generation project 🌱, you gifted Macdan four goats, farmland, seeds, and an irrigation system:

“I am now very happy as I can get enough grass for my goats from the farm weeds and can milk two of them while [the] other two will hopefully deliver in two months time insha Allah. This is my first time in my life that I got such support from anyone in this world. I thank Penny for this wonderful assistance.”

Macdan is now thriving, earning an income, and finally able to send her children to school!

How do our Emergency Response efforts work?

During emergencies, there’s no time to waste! Putting a humanitarian relief campaign together takes time that victims of disaster or conflict may not have. That’s why we often pledge or commit an amount before turning to you to raise funds.

When your donations go over the amount we pledged, we either return the excess into a General Emergency Response fund so that we can respond quickly for the next emergency, or we run a phase II of the campaign if the need is still urgent.

Your donations often cover what we spend, but not always. When we’re short, we use funds from the General Emergency Response pool.

In an emergency, we do our best to use all our funding for that particular emergency as soon as possible or in phases. We believe in transparency with our donors and value every penny you trust us with. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about where your donations go!
