The Prophet Mohammad was once asked: “What is Qurbani (or Udhiyah)?” The Prophet replied: “It is the tradition of your father Ibrahim. For every hair of the Qurbani (sacrifice) you receive a reward from God (Allah)” (Tirmidhi). According to Islamic tradition, the practice of sacrifice can be traced back to the Prophet Ibrahim who dreamt that God ordered him to sacrifice his son, Ismail.

The days of Qurbani are the 10th, 11th and 12th of the month of Dhul Hijjah in the Lunar calendar.

All Muslim adults who are sane are eligible to pay Zakat must make the sacrifice.

Your donation is 1 share of Qurbani, which equals one sheep/goat or 1/7 of a cow or buffalo. This feeds about 5 to 10 families.

Qurbani animals must be a goat, sheep, cattle (cow, ox, water buffalo) or a camel.

The animals will weigh around 220 lbs and have the minimum number of teeth as set out by Sharia law. The animals will not have any external wounds or injuries, nor will they be physically disabled or have any visible cuts or marks. We will take the utmost care to ensure that our Qurbani takes place in accordance with Islamic principles, as set out by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

All animals for Qurbani must be in good health and free from any problems with their eyes, bones, and limbs. All our Qurbani animals are well cared for and thoroughly checked to ensure they are suitable.

To be accepted as Qurbani, the animals must be slaughtered in the appropriate Islamic way.

• Sharpen the knife prior to putting the animal down for slaughter.
• Ensure that the correct size knife is used to slaughter the animal swiftly.
• Feed the animal, give the animal water and sooth the animal, show kindness and mercy to the animal.
• Ensure the area of slaughter is clean and clear of live animals.
• Make provision for Blood drainage, fly control and general cleanliness.
• Lead the animal to its slaughter humanely.
• Do not perform the slaughter process in front of other live animals.
• Maintain strict hygiene standards.

According to Islamic Law, the legal purification of the flesh of animals requires that the following conditions be met:

• Making of the intention.
• It is preferable to make the throat of the animal face the Qibla (i.e. mustahab).
• Using a sharp knife swiftly cut the windpipe, the gullet and the two jugular veins, do not sever the entire head.
• Recite the name of God (tasmiyah), while slaughtering the animal (Preferably aloud).
• Skinning of the animal should only commence once the animal stops kicking.
• Keep meat and offal separate, clean and refrigerate as soon as possible.

The availability of animals and local preferences determine which animals are slaughtered so it is not possible to specify.

We will make sure your sacrifice is carried out in the appropriate Islamic way and at the right time. Rest assured that we only use the healthiest Qurbani animals (sheep, goat, or cow) and will deliver the fresh meat straight to those who need it the most. All the fresh, succulent Qurbani meat benefits local poor and needy families, allowing them to share the celebration of Eid with us. The Qurbani meat may be handed out so that families can make a hot, nutritious meal for Eid.

One Qurbani will provide approximately 57 meals. A Qurbani is 1/7 of a large cattle or camel, or a whole sheep or goat.

We are performing the Qurbanis in India and Uganda, due to need. India has one of the largest populations of people in poverty. Our standard Qurbani price point is $40. These will be slaughtered in India (1 cow share) and Uganda (full goat). Additional Qurbans are being completed in Pakistan, Cameroon, South Africa, Yemen, Lebanon, Palestine and the United States.

Absolutely! You may give Qurbani on behalf of someone else, including a deceased Muslim. You can also give Qurbani in the name of The Prophet (saw) or his family members. However, this must be done in addition to your own Qurbani.

We will stop taking Qurbani donations after the second day of Eid.

No, Qurbani is a separate obligation.

During this time you should not cut your hair or nails or remove parts of the skin.

We’ll send you a receipt to confirm your Qurbani but we are unable to provide notification when individual Qurbanis have been completed.
