Your Qurbani Frequently Asked Questions Answered!

Dhul-Hijjah is a season of giving that we love participating in! We put together some of the common questions that have come up in previous Qurbani campaigns. Make this your most generous Dhul-Hijjah ever!

  1. ✔What is Qurbani?
The practice of sacrifice can be traced back to the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) who dreamt that he was ordered to sacrifice his son, Ismail (AS). In an act of devotion, Ibrahim (AS) agreed to perform the sacrifice. Upon being told of his father’s dream, Ismail (AS) himself even showed willingness to comply. However, when Ibrahim (AS) went to carry out the sacrifice, he found that his son was spared and a ram instead was sacrificed. . The continued act of sacrifice acts as a reminder of Ibrahim’s (AS) and Ismail’s (AS) obedience.
  2. ✔When is Qurbani 2021?
The days of Qurbani are the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul-Hijjah. The first day is better than the second, and the second better than the last. The 10th of Dhul-Hijjah will be celebrated on Tuesday July 20th, 2021, when the Qurbani sacrifices will begin for Eid al-Adha. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: “The first thing that we do on the day of Eid is to perform the prayers. Then we go home and carry out our Qurbani. Thus whoever does those acts has conformed to the way of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). And for those who were slaughtered before it, then the meat is for the family members and not as an act of Qurbani.” [Bukhari] You can order your Qurbani with Penny Appeal USA at any time before Eid, which is permissible, and we’ll ensure the sacrifice is carried out on the right day.
