Meet our Newest Team Member: Mariya Nadeem

Recently, we welcomed a new Senior Head of Marketing to the team, Mariya Nadeem!

We’re so excited to introduce such a dedicated, experienced, and passionate individual to all of you. To get to know her better, we asked her a few questions:

When did you start your career?

I started my career in 2006 at a substance abuse clinic, that is where I saw first-hand what systemic poverty can do to a community. This was unknowingly the beginning of my journey in social welfare.

How long have you been working in your field?

I have been in the nonprofit sector for over 13 years now and have been part of all stages of an organizational life cycle.

Tell me a little bit about your education, and how did it influence your career?

I got my bachelors in Business Administration with a dual degree major in Finance and Management which really helped in budgeting, reporting, and analysis in my respective field. And then I went to get a project management professional certification from the Project Management Institute. As part of a growing emergency relief organization it helped me in spearheading several digital media and marketing projects.

Tell me an interesting/humorous tidbit about yourself?

I love nature and the outdoors; camping, hiking, kayaking, and the whole bit.

What do you do in your free time?

I spend most of my free time with my kids, there is never a dull moment.

Why are you passionate about Penny Appeal?

We all have a responsibility to take part in alleviating poverty. Orphans, widows, and refugees from some of the harshest environments find hope in the work that we are blessed to do. Penny Appeal USA helps right here at home and in the toughest regions around the globe. If anything, the pandemic has taught us that it is all the more important to amplify the voices of those who are truly marginalized; as Senior Head of Marketing and Communications I want to do just that.
